Top Icelandic Things to get from the Store

  • Appelsín

Who loves orange soda? Sam loves orange soda! Is it true? I do, I do, I dooo ooooo! (bonus points for anyone who gets the reference) Appelsín is a real tasty orange soda, not quite as sweet as something like Fanta or Tango and worth a try!

  • Liquorice...everything?

Liquorice lovers rejoice! There isn't much you cannot get without added Liquorice here in Iceland... Candy, cakes, gum, chocolate and a lot more. Kumiko (tea house by the harbour) even have a Liquorice cheesecake!

  • Ostaslaufa

This one is a regular in my shopping bag when I am buying stuff for my lunch or a picnic. A really light, folded bun filled with cheese and topped with seeds (usually sesame and poppy). Definitely worth a try!

  • Kókómjólk

Admittedly kókómjólk is simply chocolate milk, a product that you can get almost anywhere but the taste is really nice! It is made with Icelandic chocolate too! (I personally prefer the sugar free version, but both are awesome!)

  • Flat cakes!

These unleavened rye flatbread's are seriously worth a try! They come in a variety of brands and are awesome topped with a bit of cheese or butter :) also great eaten straight out of the packet for a quick snack although they can be a little dry!
