Whale Watching & Whales of Iceland Exhibition

Choose to begin either by visiting the exhibition or with a whale watching tour – we recommend the exhibition first, but you can‘t go wrong either way!

The Whales of Iceland Exhibition features 23 life-size models of all of the different species that have been found in Icelandic waters. A free audioguide app (available in English, German & Icelandic) will give a plethora of information about the different species in the exhibition. This is a great way to see how big these giants of the sea actually are (and how small we are in comparison!)

For the second part of this combo you will board one of our boats in the Old Harbour, and sail out to Faxaflói Bay to see the whales in their natural habitat. You will sail out and search for some of the most common species seen on the tours: minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and humpback whales! If you are not lucky and do not see anything on your whale watching tour, you will get a free ticket to come back that never expires.

Itinerary

Sail from the Old Harbour, near the city center of Reykjavík. We sail 10-15 nautical miles out to the feeding grounds of Faxaflói Bay, a natural wildlife area. On the way out you can enjoy beautiful views of the mountain Esja and the surrounding area. We spend a total of 3-3.5 hours at sea before returning to the harbour.

The whale watching tour is dependent on weather conditions and sightings of wildlife cannot be guaranteed. Our experienced captains make the decision to sail based on years of experience while keeping in mind passenger safety and comfort.

We can never guarantee sightings on the tour, but if nothing is seen we offer a FREE ticket to try again - valid indefinitely!
