Description
One of the world´s major cosmic energy centres and a haven for sea and bird life, the Snæfellsnes peninsula, dominated by the glacier-covered extinct Snæfellsnes volcano, lies North of Reykjavík. The volcano was the inspiration for Jules Verne´s classic novel, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and fuelled the imagination of Iceland´s Noble Prize laureate Halldór Kiljan Laxnes.
This tour begins with a visit to the Ytri -Tunga seal colony then on to Arnarstapi for a one-hour cliff-top hike to Hellnar and its rich bird life. The rock formations are extraordinary creating a unique and dramatic seascape.
We continue along the coast to Dritvík bay, a long abandoned fishing centre, on to the golden sands of Skarðsvík bay then inland to the fascinating Saxhóll, Reed Basalt Crater. This tour features an optional drive to the Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum or to the edge of the glacier.
The unique beauty and powerful silent energy of Snæfellsnes will not leave you untouched.
