Into the Glacier experience from Reykjavik
Join us for a chance to journey into the heart of a glacier with pickup from Reykjavik
This exciting day tour will take you from the hustle and bustle of the city, out into the Icelandic countryside. Your journey will conclude with a journey into the frozen core of the Lanhjökull glacier.
- Ride in a modified truck
- Ice cave adventure
Starting off in Reykjavik, pick up is included in your price so you will be fetched from either your accommodation or the nearest pick up point.
We will take you out of the city, into the Icelandic countryside, on a trip to the Langjökull glacier. Once we arrive you will be transferred into a specially modified vehicle that will take you to the ice caves where your guide will then take you on an amazing journey, deep within the glacier where you can see the stunning blue-hued ice. The glacier is in constant motion and here we can literally see that movement first hand.
Back on top of the surface of the glacier, we jump aboard to the welcome warmth of the truck. We eat lunch at the stunning Hotel Húsafell and then we continue our tour of the Borgarfjörður valley. Here we will see some stunning waterfalls that emerge seemingly from nowhere from the surrounding lava fields.
Langjökull, which translates as the “long glacier”, is the second largest icecap in Iceland. It is also the closest glacier to the city of reykjavik and sits at 4,000 ft (1,200 m) above sea level. The water from Langjökull eventually goes on to become the white river which feeds Gullfoss waterfall.
Pick-up starts 30 minutes prior to departure. Please be ready at your pick up point with your voucher, either in digital or printed form.
Dress appropriately for the weather baring in mind that the area can potentially be slippery in places and will be very cold. It is also recommended you wear comfortable shoes.
You will be traveling in a coach that holds approximately 40 people but is very spacious and comfortable. There is not a bathroom on the bus but there will be plenty of stops where facilities can be used. The bus offers free wifi and a USB charging port.
You will also be able to listen to the GPS activated audio guide (offered in 10 languages) while you travel so make sure to bring your headphones or buy a pair on the bus.

Organized by: Reykjavik Sightseeing
Being in the hospitality industry, one is always inclined to observe the "little extras that go a long way". Reykjavik Sightseeing went above and beyond my expectations. They run a fleet of exceptionally new, modern and comfortable buses which make longer tour travel a dream. Their vehicles are equipped with free wifi, USB charging sockets and touch screen tablets, a dream! Headphones are sold at a minimal fee if you don't bring your own. The company provided complimentary water and there's a bathroom on the bus, a dream for any menopausal woman like myself who needs more bathroom stops than the average human being! We took part in the snowmobiling and inside the glacier, incredible "real Iceland" experience. This tour, the tour providers, the staff and services raised the bar in what had done to be, a highly competitive market in Iceland. Thanks for being such gracious hosts.
