Within this site sits the location of the world's first parliament, the spot where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are splitting and much much more.
Geysir (also known as the Great Geysir) is a geyser that can be found within the golden circle area. Its fame comes from the fact that this geyser is the first of its kind to be mentioned in print in Europe. While Geysir is no longer able to erupt of its own, its sister geyser Strokkur still goes off every 5-10 minutes allowing for plenty of photo opportunities.
The golden waterfall “Gullfoss” is one of the largest waterfalls in all of Iceland. Water drops down 31 meters in total over two drops and with its mineral composition it can often be seen shimmering a golden hue which is how it got its name.
Known locally as Gamla Laugin (the old pool) the secret lagoon is a natural geothermal pool located in a small town called Flúðir. The water here sits at a temperature of around 30-40 degrees making it a perfect spot to bathe and relax just like many locals do!
