This experience will see you travel along the stunning shores of the North Atlantic sea . From Reykjavik to the village of Vik, before setting off to Iceland's largest glacier called Vatnajökull.

You will have plenty of time to explore and witness to the stunning visuals of the glacier lagoon called Jökulsárlón.

Highlights:

  • South coast

  • Glacier lagoon

  • Waterfalls

Your day of south coast adventuring begins with pick up in Reykjavik. Pick up is included in your price so just let us know where you are staying or where your nearest pick up point is and we will come to fetch you.

We then begin our long voyage along the southern coast of Iceland to the amazing glacier lagoon where there will be options to see the lagoon from the icy shore, journey out onto the water on a boat*, learn more about the area at the visitor centre or head down to the diamond beach to watch the crumbling ice journey outward to sea.

After the visit to the lagoon we will head back to the city but not before taking time to stop off at the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. The latter of which you can walk behind!

*Weather and time of year dependant, boat trips also incur an additional cost payable on the bus

The Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón)

This area is a large glacial lake in the south east of Iceland. Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies: A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Batman Begins, as well as the reality TV series Amazing Race.

Skógafoss

Skógafoss is a mighty, 65m tall waterfall along the southern coast. The view from the top is almost legendary for the amazing contrast in landscapes it offers you.

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is the second waterfall visited as we travel back to the city and this one holds a special surprise, a pathway that leads behind the waterfall offering a very special view.

Important information:

Pick-up starts early so please be ready at your pick up point with your voucher, either in digital or printed form.

Dress appropriately for the weather baring in mind that the area at Seljalandsfoss can sometimes be wet. It is also recommended you wear comfortable shoes.

You will be traveling in a coach that holds approximately 40 people but is very spacious and comfortable. There is not a bathroom on the bus but there will be plenty of stops where facilities can be used. The bus offers free wifi and a USB charging port.

This tour is 14 hours long including travel time and the time you spend at each location. You spend at least 30 minutes at the major stops (with a longer stop at the lagoon) giving you plenty of time to enjoy the nature and snap some photos.

Lunch is not included, but there will be plenty of opportunity to buy food.

Highlights

  • Glacier Lagoon - Jökulsárlón

  • Boat ride (optional extra)

  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall

  • Village of Vík

Jökulsárlón: The Glacier Lagoon

Jökulsárlón, known colloquially as the Glacier lagoon, is an interesting body of water which connects the nearby Vatnajökull glacier with the North Atlantic Ocean. This area became a popular tourist destination, due to the ice breaking away from the glacier and drifting out to the ocean creating a constantly landscape that resembles art.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss is a fascinating waterfall and perhaps one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. Its popularity is well deserved as the Seljalandsfoss waterfall houses a very special surprise, you are able to walk behind the cascade and get a tremendous view of the waterfall from behind.

The water that feeds this 60m tall waterfall originates from the (in)famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier capped volcano. just make sure to be careful as you walk along this path as it can get slippery!

Village of Vík

Vík í Mýrdal is a small fishing village and is in fact the most southerly village on the island. The town only houses 300 inhabitants but despite this there are plenty of great places here for you to rest up and refuel.

This is also a great location for you to get gifts for the people waiting for you back home as there are plenty of people here selling amazing homemade gifts.

Itinerary

Our day tour will begin with our fast and efficient pick up service. We will come with our fantastic bus fleet to collect you from either, one of the hotels in the centre of Reykjavik or from one of the many pick up spots dotted across the city. When all our guests are aboard we will begin our drive along the southern coast of Iceland.

You will pass by views of the black sand beaches, glaciers and lava fields that make up the dramatic landscape of the area.

Our first destination is the Glacier lagoon itself and once we arrive you will have a variety of activities to choose from.
You may want to take a short boat ride across the lagoon (summer season only, tickets available for purchase on the bus). You could take a walk down to the diamond beach and witness the contrast between the glistening Ice and the black sands or for those who want to learn a little more about the area there is also a fantastic visitors centre that will give you all the essentials.

When our time at the lagoon comes to an end we will head back along the south coast again, but our exploration is far from over and we still have plenty to show you. There is also the village of Vik to see, a small fishing village with only 300 inhabitants. We will also take time to stop and see the amazing waterfall of Seljalandsfoss.
